Overview - American Cocker Spaniel
The American Cocker Spaniel is among the 15 most popular breeds in the U.S. The peek of their popularity was at the 1930s and in the 1980s, until Labrador and Golden Retrievers took the first place in popularity.
Cockers are kept mainly as companion dogs, but they can be easily taught to compete in agility and obedience, so they make great sporting dogs. They get on well with children, the elderly, other dogs and smaller animals like cats.
American Cocker Spaniel training
The Cocker is known as a sensitive dog. They have a soft personality and do not respond well to harsh treatment. Socializing and training them early is the key for a Cocker to reach adequate canine manners. They need to be handled carefully and kindly in order to bring out the best in their personality.
